Organized Labor's Partnership with United Way Recognizing that a community-wide fundraising effort is very effective, the AFL-CIO, as far back as the 1940's, jointed with the United Way in a partnership for the good of the community. To avoid duplication of services, the AFL-CIO agreed to end its own social service fundraising and encourage its members to be come involved with and support the United Way . In this mutually beneficial relationship, AFL-CIO community service staff, help workers to obtain services by directing them to agencies in the community. Locally, this labor council has had a memorandum of understanding with the local Great Rivers United Way since 1981. Our AFL-CIO community services director/Labor Liaison with United Way is Dan Hanson. Dan has been on staff since 1988 and directs community service programs and projects for this Labor Council. He can be reached at 608-796-1400 or Dhanson@greatriversunitedway.com |
