Think Nationally, Act Locally

Everyday, people in our community have to make impossible choices between the essentials of living—paying utilities, rent or mortgage or buying food.

On Saturday, May 10 th , Local Branch 59 of the National Association of Letter Carriers will again be collecting food in our local communities.

I can't thank our local carriers enough for the time and effort they put in to assure that people that need help, get it by collecting close to 87,000 pounds of food last year. This year Deb Rayberry will be the local NALC Food Drive Coordinator.

We are again in need of volunteers to help load drop-off trucks at selected sites around the area and run relays from the carriers to the drop-off sites. We couldn't do it with out AFL-CIO members and their families helping the letter carriers get the food to the food pantries.

If you can help between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the 10 th call me, Dan Hanson, at 796-1400 to sign up. If your union can take a drop off site at the Fire House across from Central High School in La Crosse or the Fire House on Monitor Street on the north side of La Crosse like IBEW Local 14 has done in Onalaska for many years, that would be great. We will need from 20 to 30 volunteers throughout the day.

The drive includes La Crosse , Houston , Vernon , Monroe and Trempleau Counties . All food will stay in the community is collected in . The food pantries include: The Salvation Army, Onalaska Food Basket, New Horizons, WAFER, West Salem Care and Share, Prince of Peace in La Crescent and food pantries in Holmen, Sparta and Tomah.

Please take the time to put food out for your letter carrier on Saturday May 10th .

The drive is sponsored by The National Association of Letter Carriers, Great Rivers United Way and The United States Postal Service.
